Take a guided tour of the exhibition So it happened. Early memories of the Holocaust through the works of eyewitness artists. The visual representation of the Holocaust, the perspective of the eyewitness artists and the artistic documentation of what they saw are key to understanding and interpreting the Holocaust. The exhibition includes prints that depict everyday life in the concentration camps, the ghetto and the labour camps by well-known and lesser-known Hungarian artists and survivors.

The exhibition presents works by nearly 30 artists, including Béla Kádár, Endre Bálint and Ilka Gedő. The majority of the works in the exhibition come from the collection of the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives, complemented by works from other institutions in Hungary and abroad.

Guided tours are available with the temporary exhibition ticket and the guided tour programme ticket (1500 HUF).

Hungarian National Gallery

The Hungarian National Gallery is the largest public collection documenting and presenting fine art in Hungary. The permanent exhibitions of the museum, located in the Buda Castle Palace complex, showcase the most important works of Hungarian art, including masterpieces by Master MS, Pál Szinyei Merse, Mihály Munkácsy, József Rippl-Rónai and Dóra Maurer.
