Ambergris, or ambergris, is the substance used in the finest perfumes and is derived from the digestive tract of the ambergris acacia. The quartet has chosen this name as a metaphor for the artistic process: the essence of the artist's activity is to create beauty from the experiences and emotions that he has accumulated throughout his life.

This is how Ambergris' compositions are born, as the musicians digest and transform chaotically intertwining stories into music. The members of the group are forged by long-standing shared experiences on the Dutch music scene. Their music is a colourful cavalcade of original songs: their concerts and two albums feature non-traditional forms, complex harmonies inspired by classical music, heartbreaking melodies from Italian popular music - reimagining one of the traditional ensembles of the jazz genre, the saxophone quartet.
