Closed book in a thicket of leaves

Location: K11 Laboratory
Schedule
In the exhibition "In the Thicket of Leaves of a Closed Book", the works of Kinga Enzsöly and Hajnalka Tulisz explore the points of contact between the visible and the invisible, the organic and the inorganic, the living and the inanimate.
The delicate, transparent layers of Kinga Enzsöly's paintings depict tropical plants in a photo-negative manner. The plants show the different seasons of temperate vegetation simultaneously, so that different layers of time of nature's proliferation and decay are condensed on the same visual plane.
Hajnalka Tulisz uses abstract paper constructions to partially obscure and highlight elements of urban and natural landscapes. Her photographic collages, built from heterogeneous elements, explore the relationship between the natural and the built environment, and highlight how our ways of perceiving and interpreting reality influence our experience of reality.
The title of the exhibition evokes a line from János Pilinszky's poem Introitus, and just as the poem's 'book that is laid' is a symbol of the unknown, of hidden knowledge, the works in the exhibition turn our attention towards the hidden, the unseen, beyond the surface.
