Jankovics Marcell: Az ember tragédiája (2014)

What more can be said about the most adapted dramatic play in Hungarian literature? Quite a lot, apparently, given that Marcell Jankovics worked for nearly three decades on the work’s animated adaptation, where his meticulous creative vision is just as defining as the limited options of the Hungarian film industry after the fall of Communism. This is the clear high point in Jankovics’s career. Over 160 monumental minutes, The Tragedy of Man faithfully evokes the visual arts of individual eras and is worthy of – even equal to – Madách’s mystery-filled human drama.
