Once upon a time, there was a theatre... / Photo exhibition by Tamás Katkó
2025-03-14T09:00:00.000Z - 2025-06-01T16:00:00.000Z
The essence of the photographer Tamás Katkó's oeuvre is presented through nearly eighty works in the Kunsthalle's exhibition, which focuses on the autonomous photography of the "kharto", which was born and brought to life in the world of theatres. His work is able to break out of the genre of theatre photography. From the 1980s to the present day, a selection of snapshots of the world of Hungarian alternative-experimental theatre and stone theatres, without the naturalistic elements of documentarism, can be seen.

Katkó's photographs sometimes hark back to the works of classical painters, through which he explores the source of primordial purity and the possibility of purification, depicting visionary events through his unique depiction of movement, light and colour.
Tamás Katkó is a master of classical and modern photographic techniques, capturing the subtlest nuances of the emerging spectacle: the movement of the air, the crinkling of the veils, the smoke-filled air, the hidden details of dramaturgy.
The exhibition is curated by Éva Markovits, art historian
Location
