Mária Kondor-Szilágyi's closing curatorial guided tour of the exhibition Vanitas-readings
2025-04-27T14:00:00.000Z
In the 17th century, the vanitas canticles drew attention to the brevity and transience of human life and the futility of worldly things. The group exhibition Vanitas Readings, which covers three rooms, offers a selection of contemporary art interpretations of this ancient art historical theme. Paintings, prints, sculptures, video works and installations reflect on a 'reading' of the vanitas theme. The exhibition is structured around eight themes, each of which follows a traditional pictorial theme, such as the dance of death, the vanitas still life, homo bulla (bubble-blowing), or the passage of time, ages, mourning, ruins. At the same time, a separate section will attempt to show the possibilities beyond the passing of time.
