BMC Records Goes Live | Black Sea Songs (TR/RO/BE)

"A Turkish singer-cellist from the coastal town of Trabzon, a guitarist-viola player from Bako in the heart of Romania, and an unpredictable jockey, a Flemish clarinetist-saxophonist from Antwerp: three real characters with a long history of musical practice together behind them, meeting in the urban delta of the Netherlands to work on songs from the Black Sea region. In the air they filtered, the three musicians breathed in ten ancient songs close to their hearts, so that a selection of Turkish, Georgian, Laz, Pontus Greek and Tatar origins could shine in the light that fell on them. They don't perform newly polished versions, but engage us in a process of momentary discovery of long-lived songs. On the verge of delineation, in their temporary volatility, merging and disappearing into nothingness, they are as capable of capturing them in their full glory, in their most playfully fidgety, vital character," wrote Henning Bolte of the trio Black Sea Songs. The band will also be recording an album to be released on BMC Records on the day of the concert.
