Stereo MC’s gets the A38 Ship dancing
Stereo MC’s is one of the best-known British hip hop and electronic bands, known for their hit song Connected, which is sure to have found its way into the ears of anyone who was young in the early 1990s. The British band is now returning to Budapest to take everyone back in time and get them dancing with their hits: Stereo MC’s will be at the A38 Ship on November 4.
When it comes to Stereo MC’s, the song Connected probably comes to mind first for everyone, which is no surprise, as the song, released in 1992, made it into the international Top 20. The album of the same name reached number 2 on the UK album chart, and in 1994 the band took home the Brit Awards for Best Group and Best Album.
The band's founders, Rob and Nick, were childhood friends and neighbors, and they formed the Stereo MC's in the mid-1980s. They were inspired by their shared love of early hip hop, funk, and electronic music. Their debut album, 33-45-78, was released in 1989, followed by tours with De La Soul, Living Colour, and A Certain Ratio. The duo then flew to New York to record their second album, Supernatural, which featured hits such as Elevate My Mind and Lost In Music, which became a real club hit in both the UK and the US.
Location
A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
