Alexander Hawkins (UK)

British pianist and composer Alexander Hawkins is known throughout Europe for his innovative spirit and impressive imagination. As a self-taught musician, he has acquired a deep knowledge of jazz traditions, which he incorporates into his compositions and improvisations alongside classical references. In 2025, he released his third solo album, Song Unconditional, again on Intakt Records, following 2019's Iron into Wind.

In addition to his solo concerts, Hawkins also puts his creativity to good use in a number of other settings: he leads a quartet and composes for large ensembles, plays in a duo with Evan Parker, Tomeka Reid, John Surman, and Sofia Jernberg, collaborates with Tomeka Reid in two trios, and regularly appears in projects by artists such as Joe McPhee, Anthony Braxton, and Ethiopian jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke.
