2025-11-29T17:00:00.000Z

Organised by the Colourful Noise collective (Anna Járai and Joseph Penn), the program reflects on the central theme of this year's Art Weekend Budapest, exploring themes of seeing, being seen and observation, highlighting diversity both in terms of genre and content. The works of Hungarian and international artists are brave, innovative, offering social critique. Most of them have not been screened in front of Hungarian audiences before.

    Hauntology of the Screen

Hauntology of the Screen is a program of experimental films and video art works, selected from an international open call of about 800 entries. The works explore physicality—of the body, of the internet, of spaces, and of the material of film. Through animation and performance, the artists portray embodiment in a world of environmental, social and generational anxieties, seeking understanding, visibility, belonging and connection. Footage is archived and collected, meticulously shot and rendered, patched together and collaged in this diverse showcase of the capabilities of the moving image medium. Existential dialogues of immigration, war, queerness and neurodivergence emerge, the unwillingness to be forgotten in the face of being haunted by the past, present and future. The desire to be seen is portrayed both as an act of courage and vulnerability, a radical gesture extended to those in the audience engaging with the works - it is our choice to bear witness.

Location

Pikszis Culture Point

At Pikszis we collect, consume and display all kinds of art. We have created a multi-functional, cultural community space where everyone is welcome, regardless of their prior level or connection to the arts. Our aim is to make it easier for everyone to explore different art forms by bringing together visual arts, music and more in one institution. Pikszis currently consists of a gallery, a café, a record shop, a vintage store and rooms for different workshops and events. We also have an in-house art school, the Pikszis Analogue Circle, which takes a slightly different approach to teaching people how to create.
