Everyone who can be seen in the dark performs here!
Willany Leó is of age! In our 18th season, we will continue to meet primarily on Wednesdays—now at the MU Theater's Káva Hall, and a little earlier, starting at 8:30 p.m. At our regular improvisation evenings, we will continue to build and maintain a community of dancers, musicians, and spectators. In addition, we are embarking on new research, preparing thematic evenings, and will have new performances, workshops, and other community programs. With youthful enthusiasm, horizontal operation, a developing professional background, amazing perseverance, and lots of humor and love, we welcome everyone back.
Come and dance with Leó!
Willany Leó Improvisational Dance Theater: free movement, live music, open score performances
Every night is different. There are no repetitions, no choreography – just the moment, the body, and live music. This is Willany Leó.
Everything is created on stage, there and then: there is no pre-rehearsed choreography, but rather the dancers and musicians make their decisions in real time.
How can this be imagined?
Sometimes an abstract or narrative performance is composed of movements, other times pre-established "rules of the game" (scores) shape the events, and sometimes the process remains completely open, where every moment is a work of art – well, that's us.
Why is it good to watch?
You see real risk: the artists are putting themselves on the line. Sometimes they are perfectly in tune with each other, other times they struggle with the space and with each other. What do you enjoy more: flawless harmony or the excitement of the search?
The score can be strict or completely free, but it is always based on shared thinking and cooperation, closely intertwined with live music.
Today, twenty dancers work at Willany Leó, taking turns on stage. Night after night, they pay attention to allowing consciousness to speak from every point of the body—from the tips of the little toes to the top of the head.
Who are we?
Willany Leó originally started as a weekly improvisation evening, then developed into a community and collective. After 18 years, its essence remains the same: living in the present moment, sensitive awareness of the body, and a live connection with the audience.
Since then, we have addressed our audience in countless forms: participatory theater evenings, dance classes, exhibition openings, site-specific performances, and one-off performances. Our common language is free dance, improvisational music, and open scores.
Over the past few years, the artists of Willany Leó have formulated principles that support the presence of stage dancers and musicians. Open Score is a structure that not only reforms the improvisational performance method, but also allows for a deeper understanding of the relationship between movement and music. "The freedom of presence and the rigidity of structure are not opposites, but rather mutually reinforcing dynamics."
Come and experience what it's like when theater is born in the moment!
