Sometime in the distant past, at the dawn of humanity, thanks to an encounter with a strange black monolith, ape-men discover fire and the use of tools. Thousands of years later, American researchers discover a similar pillar on the Moon, which emits a mysterious radio signal towards Jupiter. A space expedition is launched to investigate who the message might be intended for.
