Lucy Markus – music rooted in funk, soul, and jazz that pulsates in both body and soul.
The jazz singer is ushering in a new era with her solo project under the name Lucy Markus, in which she expresses herself with an increasingly free and authentic voice through her own songs and lyrics. The members of the band – József Balázs (piano, keyboard), Péter Oláh (double bass, bass guitar) and András Peczek Lakatos (drums) – are her long-time musical partners, with whom she has been playing mainly jazz shows for many years. The musical symbiosis that has developed between them is now unfolding in a new arena: the improvisational freedom of jazz with a funky beat and soulful depth.
Lucy Markus' concert program now features material from her brand new album, LOTUS, which also includes selected pieces from her 2020 album Footprints – Who is my destiny. The emphasis is clearly on the new repertoire, including compositions written jointly with József Balázs, which are performed with the singer's characteristic sensitivity and mature musical vision through the genres of R'n'B and soul.
Location
A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
