On the surface, *Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World* is a road movie following the underpaid and overworked production assistant Angela (Ilinca Manolache) as she navigates the crowded and hostile streets of Bucharest. In parallel, we witness the tragedy of a man (Ovidiu Pîrșan) who is confined to a wheelchair after a workplace accident. The film also satirizes the making of an occupational safety commercial, offers a critique of the new Romanian capitalism—including an appearance by Goethe’s great-great-grandchild (Nina Hoss)—and incorporates a montage dialogue with scenes from Lucian Bratu’s *Agela megy tovább*. Additionally, the film includes a CGI avatar, various quotes and anecdotes, all set to a richly varied musical soundtrack.
