Jazzdor Strasbourg-Budapest | Big Fish (FR) | The Transcendent Triptych (HU/AT/DE)

2026-03-25T19:00:00.000Z

The Big Fish quartet was born out of a collaboration between the Dancing Birds trio and saxophonist Léa Ciechelski. The project was originally created with the aim of paying tribute to 20th-century greats such as Paul Motian, Ornette Coleman, and Chris Lightcap, but their work soon took a more personal direction, allowing each of them to express their own compositional approaches. In their deep yet weightless, powerful yet playful music, the saxophone sings, shouts and whispers, while the rhythm section confidently guides the "big fish" through the waves.

In the Transcendent Triptych trio, three prominent representatives of European jazz use old, classical and folk music to recreate the concept of modern avant-garde jazz. The idea for the collaboration between János Ávéd, David Six, and Tilo Weber was born in 2022 at the most important meeting point of European jazz, the Jazzahead! festival in Bremen, after which they spent a long time maturing their new compositions. Their repertoire aims to discover transcendent content beyond the material nature of music, through the extension of pre-recorded and spontaneous musical forms. In addition to their new compositions, the concert will feature material from their first album, which will be released in April 2025 by BMC Records.
