Budapesti bemutató - Spartacus / Kecskemét City Balett

2026-03-05T18:00:00.000Z

Using the language of dance, Spartacus brings to life one of the most moving stories in history: in the dust of the arena, men faced each other, but not only each other, but the World, Power, and Fate.

The story is set in the golden age of the Roman Empire, where Spartacus, a free Thracian warrior, is thrust by misfortune into the harsh world of gladiatorial slaves. The bloody battles of the arena test not only his physical strength but also his mental stamina. Behind the roar of applause in the arenas there is always the rattle of the chains of the helpless—and the increasingly strong desire for justice and freedom in Spartacus’s heart.

Schedule

The memory of one of the most famous historical figures in antiquity remains with us to this day. His name still evokes the story of the rebellious slaves who would not give in to their cruel fate. In this dance theatre performance, the Kecskemét City Ballet unfolds this struggle for freedom with monumental power: the stage brings to life the heroic camaraderie of the gladiators, the awakening and then the dashed hopes of the slaves, the unbridled cruelty of those in power, and the overwhelming power of love.

Thanks to the many literary, cinematic, and theatrical adaptations of the story, Spartacus and his love, Flavia, have become, in the course of recent decades, symbols of freedom and the elemental desire for human dignity.

The passionate choreography tells the story of the struggle between body and soul using dynamic and powerful scenes. The irresistible pulsation of the music and the captivating movements of the dancers evoke both the glory and the cruelty of the ancient world, and above all the eternal dream of the human spirit: the enduring desire for Freedom.
