What’s new?
On April 1, the Manyi Cultural Workshop will host the first spring event of MOME IDE (Inspiring Design Theory). In this program, MOME theory students will examine the organization of cultural communities through various forms of alternative public spheres.
How does the format of a text-based journal become a medium for informal communication networks? When does a newspaper become a community, a network, or a forum for debate? The presentations examine publication communities organized by young people who took a stand outside the structures of the official press in the 1970s and 1980s. Examples such as Bercsényi 28-30, Mozgó Világ, and Hungarian samizdat culture demonstrate how young communities created their own forums and informal networks for thought and publication, through which opportunities opened up for the discussion of socio-cultural issues. By recalling these historical examples, we also pose a question for the present: how are new spaces for thought and debate emerging today?
