No one is immune to the power of the seasons, to their annual cycle of birth, growth, and decline. Not even the two monks who share a hermitage by a small pond surrounded by mountains. The changing of the seasons exerts a powerful influence not only on nature but also on the people living within it. It invigorates, fills with energy, heals wounds, and prompts reflection. Under the watchful eyes of the old monk, a child slowly becomes a young man who experiences the loss of innocence when play turns to cruelty... the awakening of love when a woman enters their closed world... the murderous power of jealousy and obsession... the price of redemption... the enlightenment gained through experience. Just as the changing of the seasons is eternal, so too will the hermitage always be the home of the soul, hovering between the present and eternity.
