Loosely adapted from a 2014 novel by English writer Martin Amis, the film tells the story of Auschwitz commander Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig, who set up their dream home right next to the concentration camp. The constant screams of the prisoners, the gunshots and the smoke from the gas chambers haunt their paradise, but their indifference to these horrors creates a terrifying and sinister contrast.
