Gala evening with Hungarian, English and original subtitles

The young György Solti, who became famous as Sir Georg Solti, was recruited to the Royal Hungarian Opera House in 1938, but ended up conducting only one performance under a darkening sky. Later, in 1948, he reapplied, but after a few conducting engagements he again felt the winds of dictatorship and chose London as his home. The world-famous conductor nurtured a wealth of talent during his long life, and his legacy is reflected in the Summer Academy, founded in 2004, which continues to train his admirers and former trainees to become today's soaring stars. In its two decades of operation, it has trained nearly 300 private singers and 100 tutors, and has welcomed international greats such as Kiri Te Kanawa, Leo Nucci and José Carreras as teachers.

On the 20th anniversary of his founding, renowned teachers and students of the Solti Academy will come to Budapest to pay tribute to the Maestro in his hometown. One of the most prominent among the performers is Freddie De Tommaso, whose name really came to the world's attention in 2021, when he became the youngest Cavaradossi of the last six decades to appear in the Royal Opera's production of Tosca. For the gala evening, he and his fellow artists will be performing excerpts from less frequently performed operas from the Romantic opera repertoire, including Thomas's Hamlet, Cilea's The Maid of Arles and Massenet's Herodias, with the help of the OPERA Orchestra.
