This evening we will listen to folk music with piano accompaniment. But let's not think of the keyboard instrument, as it is the guitar that accompanies the violin in Maramures, one of the most culturally rich historical regions of the Carpathian Basin. We often think of it as only the Romanian county of Maramures, but in fact it includes a large part of Transcarpathia.

For centuries, this region has been home to many ethnic groups, Hungarians, Romanians, Ruthenians, Jews and Gypsies. The archaic and varied folk music of the region attracted the attention of Béla Bartók. On the stage of the House of Hungarian Music, the music of Máramaros will be brought to life by one of the best-known Hungarian wedding bands, Grupul Iza, with the participation of well-known Hungarian performers such as István 'Szalonna' Pál and his band, and the Dezső Fitos Company.
