Like few others, such as Miles Davis, he has won the praise of his fellow musicians not for his exceptional technique but for his instantly recognisable individual sound, wrote one of his critics. Bill Frisell, born in 1951, raised in Colorado and settled in Seattle, has also achieved exceptional popularity among a wide range of jazz lovers.

Schedule

After an initial avant-garde period, he turned his attention to the American musical tradition, releasing a succession of albums combining elements of jazz, country, blues, bluegrass and early rock and roll. It was a surprise when Down Beat magazine critics voted his country-infused album Nashville as Album of the Year in 1996. He was fascinated by the nostalgic, melancholic white music of Americana, while he was involved in a wide variety of projects with musicians from John Zorn to Paul Motian and Charles Lloyd. A prolific composer and arranger, the genre-defying guitarist has over time become a versatile and prolific American musician who has performed in Hungary on several occasions.

Gábor Turi's Jazz Free Seminar, a series of events featuring jazz greats, will introduce you to Bill Frisell's vibrant and diverse oeuvre. Gábor Juhász, one of the most prominent figures in Hungarian jazz guitar playing, will be joined on guitar during the performance.
