ENERGY AND THE ATTRACTION OF MASS - THAT'S THE GESTI SIXTY
Showtime: Geszti fullba'
The greatest hits from the defining eras of Peter Geszti (and our planet), Rap+Az, music+stand up, fun time travel, surprising twists, epochal guests, and a unique AI spectacle!
GESTI THERE IS ONLY ONE. BUT SUCCESSFUL.
In the '90s there were no TikTok, Facebook, YouTube or even internet, so Péter Geszti's first big hit, Rapülők, was distributed on CDs and even cassettes, but in a flash, all over the country. Since then, Geszti has become one of Hungary's best-known artists.
The public, who were addicted to the europop of the 1980s and craved good dance music, immediately fell in love with Gesztti, Berkes and Michel, i.e. the Rapülők, and soon there was not a single person from Záhony to Letenyi who wasn't humming their hits. Rap in Hungarian? It turned out that it was possible, especially with Geszti, who was already very good at the unabashedly good language.
Péter Geszti stands out among his contemporaries for his songs, his totally unique lyrics, his country- and mood-boosting actions, from the Arc poster competition to the National Ride, and his versatile, creative personality. Geszti is never monotonous and never boring. He boldly drifts in and out of different genres, and always twists them a little to make himself and everyone else comfortable.
He's got The Jungle Book, The Boys from St Paul's, A Thousand and One Nights - he's written the lyrics to some wonderful musicals. And the many brilliant songs from Pirates, and the resulting Jazz+Az, where composer László Dés ensured impeccable quality, brought some discipline to the unbridled - and so Geszti, this East-Central European karma chameleon, was able to show yet another side of himself. László Dés, Orsolya Kozma, Eszter Váczi, Dorottya Behumi and the ever-moving Geszti - Jazz+Az enchanted jazz fans and everyone else.
IT'S FAR FROM OVER...
In 2006, Riszájkling filled the Arena twice with the magnificently reinvigorated Rapülők, and then released a special album of the same title. It was obviously a gold record.
Geszti wrote a hit for Kati Wolf, worked with Zséda, Magdi Rúzsa and many other talents as a mentor for the X-Factor, and in 2011 he formed a new band Gringo Sztár with Zita Gereben and Orsolya Sapszon. Their cosmopuritan pop music - a mix of reggae, jazz, pop, rap, electronic music, ska and Balkan folk music - has taken surprising turns. Gringo Sztár also performed at the March of Life event, where they played the highly acclaimed Sting cover A Hungarian in Europe.
2016 saw the (release of) Létvágy, an energetic pop-rap-electro album. For each song on the album, Geszti asked a different composer and singer to contribute, among others. Among the singers were Wolf Kati, Váczi Eszter, Oláh Gergő, Kowalsky, Rácz Gergő, Tóth Gabi, Ambrus Rita, Siza, among the composers were Péter Erdélyi, Rácz Gergő, Rakonczai Viktor, Puskás Peti, Lotfi Begi, Kálmán Tamás, Vödrös Marci.
Double Rapülők in 2017, followed by Jazz+Az in 2020 at the Papp László Sport Arena, VeszprémFest and the Tokaj Festival in 2021, then Best of Geszti nationwide, in summer at the open-air Margitsziget, and in winter at the Congress Centre. And last April, he and Eszter Váczi launched a joint theatre concert evening, Vabadaba.
But when does he sleep? Certainly not until the Geszti Sixty Arena Show. A colourful personality's big birthday concert full of hits and energy on 25 January 2025 at the Arena.
