KNOWER
The duo of Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi, Knower, have been active since 2009, their distinctive jazz-funk-electronica music based on Cole's unusual rhythm patterns and Artadi's vocals. Their increasingly popular duo took a big leap forward in 2023, with Knower Forever, released after a seven-year hiatus, being one of the year's big favourites among music fans.
The band will embark on a world tour in 2025, performing their songs with an expanded line-up, and luckily they will also be performing at the House of Music on 18 October.
Schedule
The Knowers were founded by two musicians who studied and graduated from jazz schools in Los Angeles, and both have a very broad understanding of genre boundaries. Genevieve Artadi started out in a triphop-inspired elecropop band called Pollyn, and once she got to know Louis Cole, they started Knowers.
A free-spirited duo who take jazz funk and pimp it with all sorts of contemporary electronic dance music elements (formerly dubstep and even drum'n'bass), they represent the progressive branch of the genre, their music composed of mathy rhythm formulas, mind-blowing melodies and beautiful melodies into a unique world that is akin to edgy hyperpop but also retains much of its jazz roots.
The first couple of years of Knower were very productive, with several albums released, but then after 2016's Life the musicians gave way to other projects, with Artadi releasing solo albums and Cole partly concentrating on his other band of the very avant-garde (Clown Core is basically a formation of two anonymous musicians) and partly concentrating on his solo career: Between 2018 and 2024, he released four funk-jazz albums on the Brainfeeder label, earning a Grammy nomination.
Their return in 2023 was a huge success, with Knower Forever's hugely successful Bandcamp campaign giving the album a high profile, and they'll be touring in 2025, with a number of other musicians joining them for a truly memorable show.
