Transylvanian-born artist Alpár Főcze will give a guided tour of his solo exhibition. Born in Gyimesbük, the artist draws on his personal experiences and observations, yet from a collective perspective, to focus his artistic exploration on the everyday difficulties of village life. The artist, who is exhibiting for the first time in Hungary, has chosen a theme that affects him personally.

The sight of villages dying out due to emigration is not unusual for us, yet we do little to help them. The hope for a better life and a better livelihood is creating a sense of urgency for people in villages that is drawing those who might otherwise have imagined their future within their own communities towards the big cities. Accelerated capitalist thinking and dependency on money, however, is fully shaping these destinies. The disappearance of rural communities at a global level is not just a personal tragedy of a few individuals. It can have consequences that threaten the deep-rooted cultural identities and traditions of entire nations.

Alpár Főcze's solo exhibition Mud and Gold, which opened on 9th of January, explores this complex problem through the everyday lives of the people of Gyimes. Painted in oil pastels with a yellowish, greenish gloomy mood, the images encompass a myriad of individual fates and life situations. Each image seeks the viewer's gaze, waiting for the understanding and attention it deserves.

During the guided tour, the visitors will have the opportunity to get to know a different perspective than their own: that of the artist and the man of Gyimes. The perspective is opened up and the observer becomes a receptor. However, we encourage all those interested not to hesitate to comment on the theme of the exhibition. Feel free to share your individual experiences, ask questions and initiate long conversations.

We look forward to welcoming you all!
