Benjamin Britten
THE LITTLE CHIMNEY SWEEP
Opera in three scenes, in Hungarian

Apr

Schedule
Perhaps best known to most of you by now for his performances at the Kolibri Theatre and a 2016 opera chamber production (Mozart's Leaping from the Seraglio), conductor and musician János Novák will direct Benjamin Britten's opera The Little Chimney Sweep, written for children's audiences and performers, which is a "classic opera of liberation translated into a children's adventure film", as Artistic Director András Almási-Tóth puts it. Both the composer's nationality and the opera's plot link the work to the English100 theme of OPERA's 2024/25 season, in which a child gets trapped in a chimney and his little friends try to rescue him. OPERA has no secret aim of adding to its already strong children's repertoire by providing a new operatic introduction for the youngest audiences.
