Marc Ribot
How can we best describe Marc Ribot, the 1954-born American guitarist who has made his mark in so many ways, from avant-garde jazz to experimental rock and free improvisation? And who has collaborated with hundreds of artists from Tom Waits to Laurie Anderson to Norah Jones, and contributed to more than five hundred (!) albums!
Let's just say he's one of the great guitar geniuses of the New York underground, who, while exploring extremes, always remains a likeable, introverted figure. This time, we'll see him solo in Hungary, at an evening where the only thing we can be sure of is that it's guaranteed to be a memorable concert.

Schedule
Marc Ribot's career and his sound are really impossible to describe in such a short review. Because he is capable of anything from the most extreme noises, to the most daring improvisations, to the most beautiful guitar circles. Because, surprisingly, we can also hear him playing on pop albums like Tanita Tikaram, Tricky or Elton John. Because John Zorn and John Laurie call on him when they want to go a little crazy with their music. Because Elvis Costello works with him regularly. He's performed with Chuck Berry, Wilson Pickett - and worked with Robert Plant. Marianne Faithfull, Beth Orton, Neko Case? They all invited him to play! Or shall we call more delicate circles to slow dance? Diana Krall, Cassandra Wilson, Madeleine Peyroux? They also called on their talents. And did he play guitar on one of the best albums of recent years, the 2022 wonder album by Mexican Natalia Lafourcade De Todas Las Flores? Yes! And that's not even mentioning his thousand solo projects and bands. It's really unnecessary to go on. Ever since his distorted guitar was first heard on Tom Waits' 1985 album Rain Dogs (and since then, of course, Waits has been a regular guitarist), he has been known as one of the instrument's true greats. He's also performed in Hungary a few times, but he really is in a category you can't get enough of. And for those who haven't seen and heard him yet...
