Italian pianist-composer Stefano Bollani sees music as a fun game to be reinvented again and again. He has played this ever-changing, in-the-moment improvisational game with his various orchestras and with such great artists as Richard Galliano, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Chick Corea, Hamilton de Holanda, Caetano Veloso, Hector Zazou, Chucho Valdés and his noble mentor Enrico Rava.
However, the essence of Bollani's comic wit, joyful spirit and versatile musicianship is perhaps best revealed when he performs solo. It is no wonder that his solo performances are the most popular of his concerts: this is when he is at his most free, when his joyful entertainer personality takes centre stage and when he engages his audience the most. He lets the Music (and the audience) lead the concert course, mesmerising his listeners, flitting from the lyrical to the comic, extemporising, de- and reconstructing melodies from a seemingly endless repertoire that ranges from popular Italian songs to American jazz classics, Brazilian and other South American tunes, Italian operarias, classic 20th century works and his own compositions.
The concert is supported by the Italian Institute and the Embassy of the Italian Republic.
