and yet it is pretty // exhibition opening

The exhibition, entitled And Yet Beautiful, seeks to show how we try not to hide pain and uncertainty, but to transform them: to shape them into something beautiful, so that they become bearable and understandable. The works focus on internal, difficult-to-articulate processes, where the search for beauty is both a refuge and a form of self-reflection—an attempt to create meaning and hope out of fragility.

The central idea of the exhibition is that survival is also a creative act. If we cannot avoid difficulties, we tame them with colors, humor, desire, light, and memories. This is not denial, but acceptance: the recognition that loss and pain can also carry beauty and sincerity. The present, the struggle, and the moment of uncertainty can also be beautiful if we notice them.

The exhibition is also a generational imprint: that of a generation searching for new footholds after the disappearance of old patterns. The world has been transformed; familiar structures have disintegrated, and new ones are still taking shape. In this transitional space, we must relearn how to feel, believe, desire, and be at home in fragility. The works capture this state of limbo and the birth of a new sensibility.

The Laffert Mansion is a spatial metaphor for this: once in ruins, it has now been renovated and preserves the layers of its past. Just as we too are starting over, building on what came before and carrying with us everything that has shaped us. The space and the works together indicate that beauty lies in transformation.

Because the sun is still there even when it is covered by clouds. And if we look closely, we can see that it is still beautiful.
