Sonor Saxophone Quartet
2026-04-22T17:00:00.000Z
The saxophone quartet (tenor, baritone, alto, and soprano) is not the most common chamber ensemble, and as such, it has a relatively small but all the more exciting repertoire. At the Sonor Saxophone Quartet concert, we will hear two works composed specifically for this combination of four saxophones. The quartet will be joined on this evening by visual artist Hanga Kóczán, who will accompany the works performed at the concert with short films created especially for the occasion.

David Maslanka described his piece Mountain Roads as an inner pilgrimage. For him, the mountain is not a landscape, but a symbol of spiritual elevation. Maslanka's works consistently reflect the composer's meditative outlook, spirituality, and exploration of inner journeys. He has a preference for simpler, more refined forms. In Mountain Roads, he quotes Bach's works at several points, but these melodies are not presented as quotations, but rather as spiritual sources. Traveling through the "mountain" in six movements, he seems to examine the journey of the soul from six different perspectives: prayer, struggle, devotion, purification, enlightenment, and finally peace.
