Mélanie Pain arrives at the A38 Ship with her new album!

Mélanie Pain has been the iconic voice of Nouvelle Vague for the past 20 years, while building a unique solo career that combines pop, folk, and intimate poetry. After three albums highly acclaimed for their subtlety, she now returns with her fourth album, How and Why, which is both brilliant and refined.

The album is based on a raw folk sound, with acoustic guitar and vocals taking center stage—no frills, direct and intimate. That unmistakable sound: soft, deep and radiating effortless elegance. The recordings were made live with musicians who have been working with her for a long time and were inspired by artists such as Kings of Convenience, Iron & Wine and Emilíana Torrini.

The nine English-language songs oscillate between emotion, melancholy and rebirth, including a hypnotic duet with Brian Lopez (Calexico) and a sensual cover of a song by Turkish rock band Duman.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
