Mareike Wiening New York Quintet (DE/US)

German drummer and composer Mareike Wiening presents her latest program, *Shifting Perspective*, at the helm of her internationally acclaimed quintet. Formed during Wiening’s student years, the ensemble has evolved over the past decade into a unique transatlantic collaboration: two members live in New York, while three reside in Austria and Germany, allowing the artistic journey of the quintet to be shaped by influences from both the American and European scenes. Their sound is based on melodies, precisely articulated rhythms, and a sensitivity to nuance, ranging from chamber music textures to lyrical passages and groove-oriented sections. At the heart of their live performances lies a dynamic and organically evolving musical dialogue, characterized on the one hand by precision and on the other by an openness to unexpected moments.
