Mónika Lakatos is the first gypsy musician to receive the most prestigious award in the global music scene, the WOMEX Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.Since 2004, she and her husband Mihály "Mazsi" Rostás have been running the Romengo ensemble, with which they play self-penned world music songs based on their Olach gypsy roots. Her first solo album, Romanimo, was released in 2017. With her own formation, Lakatos Mónika and the Gypsy Voices, she released her first album, Hangszín, in 2020.
She performs solo and completely alone in the House of Music, her strong, powerful voice, which is a voice of its own, introduces the audience to the purest traditions of the Oláh Gypsy culture.
