Soharóza - Halas Dóra - Nagy Fruzsina - Bartha Márk - Fekete Ádám: Az Ügy
The day-to-day running of an office, Zoltán Kodály's genre innovations, improvisational and collective compositional methods in a catwalk concert.

Schedule
The concept of the Ügy is derived from the idea and form of Zoltán Kodály's song play Székelyfonó: it aims to present a picture of contemporary Hungarian society in a series of etudes based on folk songs. While Kodály's dramatic epic gave an insight into the life of Transylvanian villages, the creators of Az Ügy invite us into the typical institution of our modern city: they show a cross-section of the daily workings of an office and the events that take place there.
The aim is to present life situations arising from the conflict between individual needs and general rules, in all their absurdity and ordinariness. Each client who arrives at the office is the lone hero of his own banal yet unique story, trying to unravel, solve and solve the mystery of the day - anyone can recognise themselves in them. In this production, however, the spectator is on the other side: he has to sort out and balance the pile of problems that looms before him, after being confronted with a multitude of complaints and requests.
The theme is thus a test of contemporary social experience, but the choir members, led by Dóra Halas, reach back to the roots of Hungarian music, to folk songs, in keeping with Kodály's innovation of the genre. This is not merely a gesture to promote values: folk songs today tell the story of human problems and life situations just as much as they did a hundred years ago, if they are set in the right context. Folk songs that fit the underlying situation of the issues presented are reborn through improvisational and collective compositional methods developed over the years in Soharosa. The result will not be an authentic performance of folk music, but a contemporary musical reworking of the basic archetypal elements (timbre, modes, rhythms, ornamentation, instrumentation). Folk songs with modern electronic accompaniment will evoke the basic setting of the scene and show the link between the original and the contemporary theme - which will unfold through the texts as transcribed by the writer-dramaturg Ádám Fekete.
