But what is a BBF? The founding members of the group first met in 2008 by an apparent coincidence to create an exciting acoustic techno project. On the one hand, Daniel Brandt and Jan Brauer, who had created jazz-influenced club music with their duo Scott, and Paul Frick, who had studied composition in Friedrich Goldmann's class at the Berlin Academy and was working on house music in addition to music for classical orchestral settings.
Their meeting was followed by actions, and they brought together piano, vibraphone, drums, percussion, brass and string instruments, Rhodes piano, bass and analogue synthesizers to create a sound that is halfway between Steve Reich and oldschool loop techno. Their experiment was a meeting of depth, complexity and minimalism. Their sound is generated in a fundamentally acoustic way, with only a few electronic instruments complementing the soundscape.
In a word: Brandt Brauer Frick is an amazing combination of a club and a classical concert hall. In their sound, the minimalism of Kraftwerk and the passion of Rammstein meet the precision of Steve Reich and the soaring of Meredith Monk.
This is a unique, exceptional, unmissable opportunity to hear them live with their big band.
Location
A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
