Schedule

Join the filmmakers for a new Hungarian drama, NYERSANYAG, which explores the gap between privileged urbanites and poverty-stricken villagers, and examines the responsibility of artists and the backlash of activism.

We will have a guest at the audience meeting: Martin Boross, director of the film, Fanni Szántó, screenwriter, Blanka Mészáros, Stefi Szabó and Zsolt Dér, actors of the film.

Martin Boross, director of the STEREO AKT theatre company and Junior Prima Prize winner, will direct his first feature film in a small Hungarian village.

A film crew arrives to the village to hold a community-building, art workshop for local young people.

The filmmaker and his colleagues quickly gain the trust of the local people. As they get closer, they realise that the village is facing oppression on a frightening scale. The trail leads to the mayor of the village, who also runs the cucumber farm that provides the main livelihood.

When the filmmakers learn that the leader is abusing his power, the director decides to make a revealing documentary about him. His well-intentioned mission has serious consequences. His highly publicised film drives a wedge between the innocent villagers and puts everyone in danger...

Location

Bem Cinema

In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
