PÁRNICZKY ANDRÁS QUARTET: MIKROTHEOSZ

In January 2023, the Párniczky Quartet presented its repertoire at the Hungarian House of Music, summing up the 22 years of work of the Nigun orchestra and the process of creating the album Bartók Electrified (BMC Records, 2018) and the period that followed. "A sovereign European improvisational musical language, integrating elements of modern chamber jazz, contemporary and folk music" - the words of János Gonda are exactly fitting for the material of the new album Mikrotheos. The album will be released live at the Opus Jazz Club on the birthday of the band's leader, András Párniczky. The members of the band - Péter Bede (tárogató, alto saxophone) and Péter Ajtai (bass) - have already accompanied Párniczky on more than 300 concerts, both in Europe and overseas. They are joined by drummer Ágoston Szabó-Sipos, who played the folk violin before studying jazz at the Budapest Academy of Music and the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.

András Párniczky, the quartet's leader, was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in 1999, and in the same year he won the Hungarian State Eötvös Scholarship.In 2000 he reached the finals of the Attila Zoller International Jazz Competition, where the jury was chaired by Pat Metheny. In 2014, he was awarded 2nd place in the JazzMa critics' poll in the jazz guitar category and became an official artist of Collings Guitars and Mandolins in the US. After numerous studies at home and abroad, he obtained his doctorate at the Liszt Academy of Music, graduating summa cum laude in 2022. "Only from pure sources." His dissertation on the survival of Béla Bartók's music in jazz will be published in book form in 2024.
