Klipegylet x Klipszemle
For over four decades, Hungarian music videos have been a meeting point of pop culture, film and music. A space for experimentation, a launchpad for creative talent and a visual art form in their own right, they have been shaping Hungary’s audiovisual culture for generations.
From Péter Tímár’s early music videos to the work of Nimród Antal and Miklós Jancsó, and on to films by György Pálfi, Kornél Mundruczó, Bálint Szimler and Xénia Fekete, Hungarian music video culture has come a long way. New generations continue to push the boundaries of the form, with work by Izabella Mazzag, Máté Brauner, Viktor Horváth and Balázs Büki.
But how do you make a memorable music video? How does a director get their start? What makes a music video more than just a promotional tool for a song? And why is there no reliable funding system that reflects the cultural significance of the medium?
On October 28, we’ll explore these questions in three panel discussions, covering everything from the first steps in music video production to the cultural value of the medium and the possibilities of Hungarian film funding.
