Opening guided tour with curator Gréta Garami at the exhibition by graphic designer József Árendás

The opening guided tour will be led by László Árendás.

The Műcsarnok pays tribute to József Árendás, a defining and pioneering figure in contemporary Hungarian cultural poster art, with a major exhibition. The exhibition focuses on such fundamental aspects of his oeuvre as intellectual humour, wry irony, outspoken visual metaphors, the creation of a powerful atmosphere, and witty associations. We pay particular attention to the manual and draughting talent evident in his graphic design work; consequently, alongside the posters, his drawings also feature prominently in the exhibition space.

The groups of works are organised around three main themes that stand out from his career: the nostalgic cinema posters of the 1970s; the era and dramatic quality of theatre posters from 1983 onwards; and the so-called ‘artist-led’ or ‘autonomous’ posters of recent decades, which focus on a purely artistic message.
