The Buda Folk Band, regarded as one of the best and most popular Hungarian bands of the 2010s on the folk and world music scene, returned in 2026 after an eight-year creative hiatus. Following their summer concerts, they will give their final Budapest concert of the year at the Zene Ház in December.

The lives of the members of the Buda Folk Band, formed in 2007, have been steeped in a love of Hungarian folk music and folk traditions since childhood, which is hardly surprising, as many of them have had such influential role models in their family backgrounds as Sándor Csoóri, the former founder of the Muzsikás ensemble, or Péter Éri, who are (also) known as the composers of numerous popular folk-inspired covers and hits.

In the early days of the dance house movement, there was no such thing as institutionalised folk music education, so the musicians in the newly formed ensembles came from a wide variety of musical backgrounds. Before they were captivated by authentic folk music, many had studied classical music, whilst others came from a beat music background. Soma Salamon, the band’s accordionist, put this phenomenon very aptly in a previous interview: “I wonder what the members of the Rolling Stones would say if they knew that their music had actually inspired a whole dance-house movement, even if only indirectly.”
