TASNÁDI József - PRIVÁT NYOMOZÁS
In József Tasnádi’s poetically conceptual practice, content takes precedence over form – even though his associative and elegiacally contradictory works are technically and visually accomplished, and usually take the form of installations, technological works, or kinetic pieces. In his exhibition at Patika, the artist explores the nature of language, a subject of central importance in his work.

Schedule
Private Investigation takes Ludwig Wittgenstein’s insight as its point of departure: that language is a communal phenomenon, rather than a means of giving expression to private experiences. The exhibition consists of two units, and thus itself moves beyond the character of a report on the results of an introspective process. Rather, it maps out — and already contains within itself — a dialogical situation. On the one hand, it evokes Wittgenstein’s “beetle in the box” motif, through which he illustrates the impossibility of describing inner experiences as if they could be derived from themselves alone. On the other hand, the exhibition introduces its own metaphor for making perceptible the communal operation of language.
Meaning is possible only through the public nature of language; therefore, philosophical problems do not arise from the closed mind, but from language itself. Language makes communal life possible, while language itself is meaningless outside the form of life that uses it.
Vigh Violetta’s opening performance introduces the exhibition as a kind of reading aid; after the opening, its documentation becomes incorporated into the exhibition, attempting to establish a dialogical situation.
In her research-based practice, media artist Vigh Violetta creates visual metaphors that engage with scientific and social phenomena. Through installations and video works, she playfully addresses themes such as labour, knowability and measurability, as well as chaos and controllability.
