A Hét Mesterlövésze Moziklub #9: A John Malkovich-menet

The “Seven Sharpshooters” Film Club continues at the Inga Kultúrkávézó! For the film club’s ninth screening, we’ll be showing Spike Jonze’s brilliant, surreal classic, *Being John Malkovich*. 🎬

Unforgettable performances by John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and, of course, John Malkovich himself; Charlie Kaufman’s brilliantly absurd screenplay; and Spike Jonze’s unique directorial vision. Few films can be said to push the boundaries of reality and identity in such an original way.

The story centers on an unemployed puppeteer who lands a job as a file clerk on the seventh and a half (!) floor of an office building. There, he stumbles upon a hidden door that literally leads into the mind of actor John Malkovich. As they turn the use of this portal into a lucrative business, emotions and desires run wild. But who is controlling whom, and to what extent do we have control over our own lives?

Following the screening, Pál Laska and Péter Csunderlik will discuss the film with Attila Márton Farkas. They’ll discuss surrealism in modern cinema, Charlie Kaufman’s unique cinematic universe, the film’s psychological and philosophical depths, its absurd humor, and, of course, what makes this 1999 cult classic still work so perfectly today. We also look forward to questions from the audience and encourage active participation in the discussion!
