Ghetto Birds | Mirarab – Lukács – Camarda – Dés (IR/HU/IT/AT)

Four adventurous souls for whom being on the road—both physically and mentally—is second nature. Four musicians who ceaselessly push the boundaries of what their instruments can do. The recently formed Ghetto Birds is a meeting of four personalities who transcend social and genre-based boundaries by creating a new kind of artistic community—singing and soaring freely, just like birds.

Mahan Mirarab, born in Tehran, currently lives in Vienna. Known for both his special Persian guitar and his unique musical voice, the artist blends Iranian classical music, European chamber music, and contemporary jazz into an accessible style.

Miklós Lukács is one of the world’s most renowned cimbalom players, having played a pioneering role in elevating the instrument to a full-fledged part of the contemporary and international music scene. His work bridges the gap between classical music, jazz, and folk music traditions, pairing virtuosity with a personal musical language.

Daniele Camarda, of Italian origin, transforms the approach to the bass guitar with bold and unconventional ideas. In his music, elements of contemporary jazz and experimental music, as well as various traditions of stringed instrument playing, intertwine, often incorporating live electronics.

András Dés, born in Budapest and currently living in Vienna, considers himself primarily a jazz musician, yet his genre-spanning work faithfully reflects his openness to the most diverse forms of artistic expression: he has worked with folk musicians, immersed himself in contemporary classical music, and also enjoys performing alongside writers and poets.
