Schedule
Kale Lulugyi:
In the Lovari language, Kale Lulugyi means “Black Flower.”
Our band’s goal is to promote authentic Romani music, in which Hungarian, Upper Hungarian, Székely, and Romani folk melodies are complemented by world music, jazz, and rock elements. Our repertoire draws on musical traditions from Nagyecsed all the way to Spain. The band plays truly lively, uplifting, and authentic Romani and world music that appeals to a wide audience—from the youngest to the oldest. What makes us special is that we’re a multigenerational band, with father and son performing together on stage. We believe that music has the power to bring people and different social groups together, even if only for the duration of a concert.
Mónika Lakatos and Cigány Hangok:
Led by Mónika Lakatos, recipient of the Kossuth Prize and the WOMEX Lifetime Achievement Award, Cigány Hangok brings the sweeping energy, rich vocal tradition, and unique rhythmic world of authentic Olah Romani music to the audience. The ensemble evokes one of the most vibrant facets of Romani musical culture through the power of polyphonic vocal music and percussion instruments. Lively melodies, raw vocal tones, and authentic, tradition-preserving music come together in a captivating concert experience.
In 2020, Mónika Lakatos became the first Romani artist in the world to win the prestigious WOMEX Artist Award for lifetime achievement, and in 2022, she was honored with the Kossuth Prize for preserving and passing on the traditions of authentic Olah Romani culture.
