In Johann Fredersen’s gigantic Metropolis, only a privileged class enjoys the benefits of technological progress. The gates to magnificent gardens and parks stand open to them; they live in light and splendor. On the lower level of the city, the poor and the workers eke out a living; they never see sunlight and toil all day long under artificial lighting.
The two levels are connected by elevators, but otherwise there is no contact between their inhabitants. Until one day, a group of children from “down below” disrupts the entertainment of those above...

and on weekends from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
