Nothing 2.0

Janne Teller’s world-famous young-adult novel—first banned and later made required reading in the author’s native Denmark—is a shocking parable comparable to *Lord of the Flies*. Its puppet-theatre adaptation is a taboo-breaking production that, through the devices of puppetry stylisation, explores serious ethical and philosophical questions such as the search for life’s meaning, adherence to moral boundaries, and an individual’s responsibility for others, while also holding up a mirror to adult society.

“Nothing means anything; I’ve known that for a long time. That’s why nothing is worth doing. I’ve only just realised this,” says eighth-grader Pierre Anthon, before walking out of the classroom and climbing a plum tree, from which he proclaims the futility of life to the world.

His classmates decide to prove him wrong, so they begin collecting objects—“important things”—that are worth living for: a bicycle its owner saved for years to buy, a diary, a girl’s long hair… But what begins as a game of proof soon becomes uncontrollable. Everyone becomes vulnerable, and everyone loses what matters most to them, while the “Heap of Meaning” keeps growing and slowly consumes everything.

Janne Teller’s world-famous young-adult novel is a book that is not afraid to ask questions. It is a provocative work that poses the deepest, most painful questions, prompts conversation and debate, and encourages us to find the answers ourselves.

The youth production, performed to great acclaim since 2013, moves from the Ország Lili Studio to the Main Stage in a renewed form. With a new, young cast and the involvement of two popular figures from the contemporary pop-music scene, cserihanna and Bongor, the theatre presents the production with new music to the next generation of audiences under the title *Nothing 2.0*.
