Szabó Dániel Trió

The backbone of the Dániel Szabó Trio’s programme is formed by the bandleader’s own compositions. ‘Kaleidoscope’ – that is, a rapid succession of colourful, swirling changes – is one way of describing a repertoire that is nonetheless held together as a unified whole by the distinctive musical language stemming from the composer’s personality. Dániel Szabó is just as at home navigating the intricate structures of African-American rhythms or the complex harmonic world of jazz as he is within the musical languages of Central and Eastern Europe, classical music and folk music. It is perhaps thanks to his love of and interest in literature, theatre and film that his music almost always tells a story which, whether unfolding along a single thread or several, is full of tension, resolution, distinct characters and, often, atmospheres that evoke visual imagery. The Trio introduces the audience to this rich world; alongside Szabó, it features two exceptionally talented young musicians who are also in demand internationally, Marcell Gyányi and Dániel Ferenc Szabó, whose high level of professional skill and creative energy bring the production to life.
