Electro emerged alongside electronic music, although the first experiments with electronic music began as early as the second half of the 1950s. A good example of this is the Hungarian science education program *Delta*’s theme song, composed by ᴛᴏᴍ ᴅɪꜱꜱᴇᴠᴇʟᴛ & ᴋɪᴅ ʙᴀʟᴛᴀɴ.
The first conscious electronic dance music can be traced back to the 1970s, championed by ᴋʀᴀꜰᴛᴡᴇʀᴋ’ꜱ ʟᴘ *ᴀᴜᴛᴏʙᴀʜɴ*.
Electro exploded in the early 1980s, blending with hip-hop, boogie, and breakbeat. Examples include “ᴘʟᴀɴᴇᴛ ʀᴏᴄᴋ” ʙʏ ᴀꜰʀɪᴋᴀ ʙᴀᴍʙᴀᴀᴛᴀᴀ ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ꜱᴏᴜʟꜱᴏɴɪᴄ ꜰᴏʀᴄᴇ, and the Grammy-winning “ʀᴏᴄᴋɪᴛ” ʙʏ ʜᴇʀʙɪᴇ ʜᴀɴᴄᴏᴄᴋ.
Afterward, the spotlight shifted to other electronic music genres, and electro faded into the background before regaining popularity in the early 2000s.
