Electric Bebop Band Budapest

The Electric Bebop Band was formed in early 2023, based on an idea by Péter Cseh. The connection to Paul Motian’s band of the same name is obvious and no secret; led by the legendary jazz drummer, that band served as a sort of musical incubator during the final decade of the previous millennium—featuring young talents such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Monder, and Joshua Redman.

For the six members of this unique ensemble—which brings together representatives of multiple generations—the search for and experience of freedom is the most important common denominator. The repertoire consists of pieces by leading figures of the bebop era—such as Monk, Parker, and Bud Powell—that have since become classics, offering new generations of musicians the opportunity to reinterpret them and express themselves through them. The Electric Bebop Band Budapest will attempt to do just that on August 7 at the Opus Jazz Club.
