Schedule

Zénite Azul is a project that seeks the point space directly above the places of life that Maria do Mar and Tracy Lisk inhabit. A duo that reaches for the highest point of listening—intentional, and focused that leads to the production of sound. The violinist and the drummer set out to explore the possibilities of color within sound, which sensations it transports, connecting what is most deeply human with the more-than- human, the non-human. Maria do Mar is an eclectic violinist, teacher, composer, activist, with a transdisciplinary path. Her creative approach explores convergences and divergences between classical music, alternative teaching modes, experimental and improvised music, film, theater, dance, and activism. She has performed with many national and international artists, such as Carlos Zíngaro, Joelle Léandre, Mia Zabelka, Pavel Fajt, Ernesto Rodrigues, Luís Vicente, Rodrigo Amado. She has several recordings, and is a member of musicprojects such as Arpyies, Kokota Mabaya, and LANTANA, which has been awarded Best Band of 2022,by RTP (Radio and Television of Portugal) and Festa do Jazz, and Revelation Group 2022, by El Intrusopole of critics, concerning their debut album Elemental (Cipsela Records). In 2019, her work wasrecognized with her nomination by Rui Eduardo Paes as 2019 Best Portuguese Musician or Band inJazz.pt magazine. She explores a wide and varied universe and the development of a personal language, with tenuous aesthetic boundaries, opening up creative unlimited cross-possibilities. Tracy Lisk is a percussionist from Philadelphia, currently based in Portugal. Ms. Lisk’s history as a painter informs the substance of her improvisations which contain references to rhythmic structures while maintaining a fluid, suspended continuity. She has lead percussion ensembles, and regularly tours as a drummer in the US and Europe. She has collaborated with Gary Hassay, William Parker, bassists Boris Janje and Roberto Bellatalla, and has also worked with Maggie Nicols, Matt Shipp, Dave Burrell, and Steve Swell. She is the recipient of several grants from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts based in NYC for Music.
